ABOUT ME
Every historic building has its own story. Understanding how it was built, how it has changed over time and why problems have developed is the foundation of every recommendation I make.
For more than thirty years I have worked with traditional buildings, combining practical conservation experience with postgraduate study in Historic Building Conservation. Throughout my career I have been driven by a simple belief: the best repairs begin with a proper understanding of the building itself.
Whether I'm carrying out a condition survey, preparing a conservation report or undertaking traditional repairs, my objective is always the same—to help owners make informed decisions that preserve as much of the original building as possible while ensuring it remains safe, practical and fit for future generations.
When you contact Historic Building Conservation & Repair Ltd, you'll deal directly with me throughout the project. I believe that personal involvement, careful investigation and honest advice are the foundations of successful conservation, and they remain at the heart of every commission I undertake.
What Conservation Means to Me
People are sometimes put off by the word conservation, believing it only applies to castles, cathedrals or the most important listed buildings. In reality, conservation is simply a thoughtful approach to caring for any historic building.
To me, conservation means understanding how a building was constructed, why it has changed over time and what has caused its defects before deciding how best to repair it. It means retaining as much of the original building as possible, carrying out only the work that is genuinely necessary and using materials and techniques that are compatible with its traditional construction.
Conservation is not about making repairs more complicated or more expensive. In many cases, it is quite the opposite. By understanding the real cause of a problem and avoiding unnecessary replacement, it is often possible to preserve more of the original building while reducing the amount of work required.
Whether your property is Grade I, Grade II*, Grade II, locally listed or simply an old building with traditional character, the same principles apply. Every building deserves to be understood before decisions are made about its repair.
Conservation is not about preserving every imperfection or preventing change. It is about making informed decisions that respect the building while ensuring it remains safe, practical and enjoyable to live in.
I believe historic buildings should be repaired with sensitivity, skill and care. I work to ensure each project is completed to the highest standards, preserving heritage for future generations.
