Structural Timber Frame Repair with Wattle and Daub Panel Infill
We were asked to investigate water leaks around a ground floor window of our clients old home. After removing the timber drips over the windows we found evidence of deep decay. After further investigation, we removed the brick panel infilling to reduce the future decay.
A programme of work was agreed and we set about the conservation and repair of the structural timber frame and windows and it was agreed that we should return the gable to wattle and daub, rather than put the brick infill back which is really too heavy for the historic timber frame. The new daub will not only assist in the removal of water from the timbers but has also massively increased the thermal efficiency of the building and provided much needed sound insulation from traffic noise.
